MADAM system description
The MADAM: Mobile Anti-distraction Application for Motorist was developed using Android Studio. The Android application aims to help the motorist to comply with the Anti-Distracted Driving Act through hands-free management of calls and SMS they received while driving.
The application can switch between two (2) modes to activate Driving Mode and return in Normal Mode. The user can manage calls using speech recognition when the smartphone is in Driving Mode and reads aloud SMS using Text-to-Speech when phone is in Normal Mode. The user can also reply hands-free to SMS from pre-defined SMS using voice command. The user can also prioritize calls based on user’s priority contact list. The application also informs phone callers and SMS senders hands-free that the motorist is driving a motor vehicle through SMS. The application can also generate suggested priority contacts to help user in choosing contacts based on the user’s phone call history and SMS thread.
